Evaluating five learning interventions for 150 students at a government fisheries school, using the OECD DAC criteria.

The programme

At GRFTVHSS, a government fisheries school in Kochi, S.L.A.T.E and the Rotary Club Greater Cochin ran a programme for 150 students in Classes 8 to 12. It had five parts: gamified maths, curiosity-driven learning, career guidance, academic tutoring and a learning resource platform.

What we did

As S.L.A.T.E’s RAAR team, we evaluated the programme against the six OECD DAC criteria: relevance, coherence, efficiency, effectiveness, impact and sustainability. We wrote a questionnaire for each intervention to fit the school and its students.

Using mixed methods, we ran surveys, focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews with students, teachers and partners. Student volunteers helped carry out phone surveys, with informed consent and confidentiality throughout.

What came of it

We presented our survey findings at the S.L.A.T.E roundtable. The evaluation gave the partners practical, student-focused evidence on which parts of the programme to keep, change and scale.
