A 33-hour course building a community of young public policy thinkers in Kerala. Two batches, 45 graduates so far.

Why

Better policy needs citizens who understand it and ask for it. We built this course to grow a community of public policy thinkers and analysts in Kerala, people who can discuss our work and push for more effective policy from government.

What we teach

The 33-hour course is organised around three themes: the state, the market and society. Drawing on liberal economic thought and public choice theory, it introduces ideas such as spontaneous order, the role of incentives and the limits of state action. Students apply them to policies that shape daily life, from education and food subsidies to jobs and urban transport.

Classes are student-centred. The teacher facilitates, and students learn through case studies, discussion and activities, in a space open to every point of view.

What came of it

The course began at St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam, in September 2024. Two batches, 45 students in all, have graduated; their certificates were presented by the Ernakulam Deputy Commissioner of Police, Smt. Aswathy Jiji IPS. Several graduates now write for Nayadrishti.

Next, we want to take the course to more colleges across Kerala, especially government and rural colleges whose students rarely get this kind of opportunity. See the course and apply.
